Apron Systems for the aircraft stands of the new Terminal 3 building at Dar es Salaam Airport

Sept 2012 – March 2015

Project description

At Dar es Salaam International Airport a new terminal building is initiated in a design and build project. This terminal building will have new contact stands as well as remote stands to be developed. At the airside are initially five contact stands for wide body aircraft being build, of which three stands are MARS stands. In phase two of the project are three more wide body contact stands planned, of which two have a MARS configuration. In addition, four remote stands are being designed, of which three are MARS stands.

While working at Deerns, I was responsible for the apron systems of all the new stands: Docking System, Boarding Bridges, Ground Power, Pre-Conditioned Air, Fuelpit location and Aircraft Stop positions. The MARS stands demand for flexible apron solutions. Initially, the stands would be equipped with only one boarding bridge, making the apron solutions even more complex.

In phase two, a second boarding bridge would be installed at the MARS stands, making the operations easier.

The picture above shows in the background the situation after completion of the terminal and aprons as shown on Google-Earth. Over it are modelled stands with AviPLAN.
